Special day today!

And why is it a special day? Because it is my birthday! I must admit that it hasn't been all I'd hoped just yet because I have a 5yo home from school with suspected gastro after being up throughout the night vomiting (all in his bed mind you...yuk) and now my hubby has come down with it as well. Needless to say the washing machine is copping a beating today and we are running out of toilet paper!

Sigh......

I want to remind all my lovely blog readers about the Picture to Page craft show that is on THIS WEEKEND in Geelong. There are approximately 25 traders all dedicated to the papercrafts industry that will be present including yours truly! I will be doing some demonstrations throughout the 2 days and will be on hand to talk about any of the products that SU! has on offer. Can't think how do use a particular tool you've purchased? Talk to me and I'll show you. Want to order some more DSP? No problem. I will be taking orders on the day. Want to know how a particular project is created? Speak to me about booking a workshop and I'll teach you how it is done.

Everyone that fills out a registration form goes into the draw to win a box of SU! goodies worth more than $75. For anyone that books a workshop with me at the craftshow, I will also put your name into the draw to win a stamp set of your choice to the value of $50.

So come along and say hi. The details are:

  • Location: South Barwon Civic Centre, 2 Colac Rd, BELMONT (cnr Reynolds Rd)
  • Times: Saturday 9.30am - 4.30pm; Sunday 10am - 4pm
  • Entry: $9.50 per person; kids under 12 are FREE. This includes chance to win a lucky door prize.

Refreshments, lunches and snacks will be on sale. There is also a kids card making area (kids under 8yo need an adult). I'm told that parking is ample.

Not everyone will have EFTPOS available so bring some cash with you. There are ATMs located nearby however.

Scrapbooking class

As I mentioned in my newsletter, I am going to be offering scrapbooking classes throughout the year. These won't be as regular as my card classes - well...not at the start! - but I hope to offer them at regular intervals.

I have had a few ladies approach me with interest about the class. I am toying with the idea of holding these at my house on a FRIDAY morning (time TBA). My 2 eldest kids are at school and kinder at these times, so there is just the baby at home and she sleeps for a bit of the morning anyway. If the numbers stay under 5, we can do this.

I have a scrapbook 12x12 page ready to go, so I will just consult my diary and announce a date in the next few days. At this stage, the cost will be approximately $10 - 15 per head and for this, you will get my expertise, use of my equipment, supplies needed to do your 12x12 layout and refreshments. You will need to supply your photographs or memorabilia that you want to place on the layout (for most of the projects, you could do this after the class). In most cases, I will let you know the theme of the layout and what sort of photos (and measurements) you will need.

The advertising pictures for the scrapbooking classes will be different to the card classes I do. You will only get a sneak peek of what the project actually is. The reason behind this, is that "scraplifting" is so very easy to do. For those customers that do not live local to me and would still like to participate...I haven't forgotten about you! I am working on a "Scrap by Mail" kit for you. Stay tuned.

Introducing "Graceful Sketches"

Now I do not promise to constantly bang these out like other websites do (such as PageMaps, Mojo Monday, Get Picky etc), but I thought I might offer some inspiration to those that are stuck for designing scrapbook layouts or cards.

First up is a sketch for a 12x12 scrapbook layout, although you can adapt this sketch for a card. Flip it, turn it around, add or subtract items....it is up to you to interpret. These sketches (and others provided on the web and in mags) are simply platforms to get your own creativeness flowing.

And this is my take on the sketch, which incidentally is a layout I have created for the Picture to Page papercraft show to be held in Geelong on March 5 & 6th. Come along to see other creations!

In the picture, you can't tell what is under the picture on the left side, but it is a piece of black cardstock that I have cut a strip of then written "Isabella Mary 11.8.2011" in white gel pen then sprayed with the Shimmer Ink (champagne) and isocol mix (see tutorial). In real life, it is sparkly, but you can still read it. The flash of the camera has picked up the sparkles and this is why it is hard to see in the picture.

Just to draw your attention to a couple of products, you will note the patterned paper I have used behind the picture of Bella. It is actually one of the Pesto Patterns DSP sheets that I sprayed with the Silver Foil Smooch Spritz and then gentle rubbed over the paper and wiped off any excess. Trust me, it looks fabulous in real life! I also used the Frost White Shimmer Ink on a dauber and applied directly to the Medallion background stamp to give that white opaque image on black cardstock. And I have used one of the SAB sets, Bliss, for the accents and the title.

You will also note that I have used some retired products - the hat pin and pearls from the old Pretties kit - and I also used a non SU! die to cut the label. As I have mentioned before, I have no problem using a range of items including non SU! products on scrapbook pages and cards. Especially items that are already in your stash. It is better to use them than let then gather dust!

Busy, busy

I have been flat out the past couple of days creating cards and scrapbook pages to take to Picture 2 Page in a couple of weeks time. So excuse me if I fail to load some pics on here over the next week or so. I don't want to reveal all my creations before the event....it will give you an excuse to come and see me, to see what I have come up with! But I know that all of my blog readers can't attend, so I will load a few piccies on here for you.

I am devising what demonstrations I will be doing. So far, I have come up with vintage and watercolouring. I will have one or two more - maybe OTP projects ?? - so if these interest you, make sure you put either March 5 or 6th into your diaries and come along for a squizz.

On another note, I am happy to announce that my 3rd stamp club is filled and will be commencing March 2011. If you were thinking of it but didn't actually get around to joining, I will be announcing another one mid year, so keep an eye on my blog for a call for numbers.

Another stamp club member challenge card. This time, Laura Smith has provided me with her version of "vintage". Well done Laura; a lovely card.

Picture to Page scrapbook and Papercraft show - GEELONG

As I mentioned in my newsletter, I have been asked to attend the Picture to Page show in Geelong as the Stampin' Up! demonstrator! This is a fantastic opportunity for me to meet some of you face to face and to showcase SU! and my own business.

Picture to Page runs a number of different events throughout Victoria, so if you are interested, simply go to their blogsite for more info. In fact, Shirley Dougan who co-ordinates the event is constantly updating the website with information as it comes to hand on various stallholders present. I don't think the traders are finalised yet, so keep looking back.

However, I will be there and as a show special, I will be offering anyone that fills out a registration form with me the opportunity to win a box of SU! goodies! PLUS, if you book a workshop with me at the show, you will go into the draw to win a stamp set valued at $50!

I will be running demonstrations throughout the 2 days, and everything I make I will be giving away. There will also be a display of cards and scrapbook pages using a variety of SU! products. Plus, I will be contributing to the "lucky door" prize.

Come along and spend some time having a look at a range of crafting ideas. There is even a kids cardmaking area available (under 8's need an adult).

WHEN: March 5 & 6
WHERE: South Barwon Civic Centre
2 Colac Rd, BELMONT (cnr Reynolds Rd)
COST: $9.50 - kids under 12 FREE

Stamp club challenge

As part of the stamp clubs, members are provided with challenges and tutorials on various months. The challenge for Stamp Club #2 for February was to do a project within the "vintage" theme. You can see an example of my take on vintage by clicking HERE (the set of 3 Christmas cards).

Michelle Caspar has designed a beautiful card which nicely fits the theme. You can see that she has also cleverly made a flower by punching a number of scallop circles, squishing them up and them layering them. She has completed the arrangement by adding two scallop ovals as leaves. It is also nice to see that she has added some bling in the form of the Isocol/shimmer ink comb as I have outlined in the tutorial a few days ago.

February class announcement

Thankyou for your patience. The Feb class will be based on a Stamp-a-Stack courtesy of a fellow SU demonstrator, Marelle Taylor.

In this class, you will make 6 cards - 2 of each design - suitable for both adults and kids. Both cards will utilise stamps form the SAB catalogue. In fact, we will be using 3 of the 4 stamps on offer, so if you would like to see what these stamps are like in real life, contact me to book your place.

For the 2 separate styles, I am featuring a vintage look (using the stamp set "Bliss"), which is a style that I am a bit late to jump on the bandwagon with, but really enjoy nonetheless. It is a really simple style and I will give you tips and hints at the class on how you can recreate this style at home on your own projects.

The second style is a very clean and simple one. For these cards, we will be using the stamp sets "Punch Bunch" and "So Happy for You" along with the Celebrate DSP which I have really enjoyed using. In addition, to create some interest to the backgrounds, we will use the spritzer tool, the builder wheels and a normal jumbo wheel. These cards will have you wondering why you don't make more cards throughout the year!

Date: Saturday February 19th

Time: 1pm

Place: old convent complex, 1 Fireman St, COLAC

Cost: $20

RSVP by February 16th to reserve your place. Numbers are limited and bookings are essential.

SAB and other stuff

My SAB cattys will be going out tomorrow. Make sure you don't miss out on receiving one. If you are a customer that has purchased from me in the past 12 months, you will AUTOMATICALLY be mailed a catalogue. If you haven't purchased anything from me in this time, but are keen to see the stamps on offer, please email me with your postal address and I'll make sure I get yours in the mail ASAP.

My class in February will be using 3 of the SAB sets. I will be posting pictures and details about this class in the next day or so...check back on that one. As usual, numbers will be limited for the class due to seating arrangements. Get in quick.

I already have a couple of bookings for in-home workshops during the SAB period. Don't miss out on a date that you want. Contact me NOW to arrange a date for me to show you how great the SAB sets are.

I will be posting (emailing) out my monthly newsletter in the next few days. If you don't already receive this, simply enter your details in the box at the top of this blog and you will automatically receive it every month.

I am going to be a bit preoccupied tomorrow as my #1 baby - Thomas - starts school for the very first time. He is really looking forward to it, as am I. But still......here I am handing him over to other people to help me raise him, mould him and educate him. From tomorrow, I cease to be the main person in his world who teaches him and I will have to allow others in. Sob. No doubt I will have pics of his first day to share. Even I haven't seen him in his complete uniform. He has tried everything on at various points...just not altogether. So I will see him kitted out as a prep kid for the first time tomorrow. You can just tell that there will be tears (mine, not his).
