My crafting space

My desk

Many people think that I have this wonderful crafting space. I am very fortunate that I do have a space all to myself. However, I inherited this space and it has forever been a work in progress. I have recently installed some IKEA shelving, but am still waiting on hubby to arrange my BIL to come and help install the other unit which will hang on the wall and store paper and punches etc..
So my space is a mess. And in fact, it is such a mess that it spills out into the entranceway which forever annoys the hell out of my husband.

See that small space near my keyboard just where the craft mat is? Well that is all the area I have to create! And that mat is only A4 sized. Sad hey? And the reason I have 2 screens (yes, i know you're wondering about that) is because I have a laptop but want a bigger screen. BUT we can't work out how to keep the big screen going once I shut the laptop up. Sigh....

Kristina Werner recently posted on her blog all about her messy craft space and urged other messy crafters to show theirs as well. Well, I think it is beyond dispute that I am a messy MESSY crafter. Can't help it. I do try and keep everything neat, but it never stays that way. Will things be different when I eventually get the rest of my shelving up? Doubt it.

Boxes of 'stuff' waiting to be unpacked and put away. I think that these contain samples and what not from the Picture to Page show I went to in early March! And you can just see the IKEA shelving behind the mess.

April Class - Mothers Day card & gift

Phew. I know I said that I would post pics of the next class the day after I posted, however, I have been laid low with a migraine for a couple of days which included a couple of trips into hospital for jabs. Not fun. And now Tom has come down with some icky sicky thing...poor bugger. He also required a midnight trip to hospital to stop him vomiting. Mark made 3 hospital visits in about 15 hours!

However, I have recovered enough to finish photographing the project for my April class. In this class you will make 4 cards (2 of each design) and a portfolio to keep them in. As these are an unusual measurement, I will also be supplying the envelopes as well. This is perfect to give as a Mother's day gift and you can use one of the cards as your gifting card as well! I don't have any sentiments stamped on these cards, so if you don't want to use them for Mothers day, you don't have to. I will bring a range of sentiments with me that you may use on the inside of the cards if you wish.

This class is also being offered as a CLASS BY MAIL! So for those that cannot make my class due to the distance or the change in date, then you might like to take advantage of this offer. See details below.
Class (in person)
Cost: $25 per person

Location: old convent complex, 1 Fireman St, COLAC

Time: 1pm

Date: Saturday 9th April *NOTE the change of date from the 16th. (I will be away on holidays from 10th - 26th April)

RSVP: by Wednesday 6th April. Bookings are essential for me to have enough product prepared on the day.

Class By Mail
Cost: $20 per kit (a kit will make 4 cards with envelopes and portfolio). Includes postage.
Bookings and payment for kit MUST be received by Wednesday 6th April. I will post kit out BEFORE I leave on holidays.

Kit contains:
  • Cardstock and DSP for portfolio and cards - all pre-cut ready for assembly
  • ~ 80cm ribbon
  • 4 envelopes
  • 20 Dimensionals
You will need to supply:
  • Stamp set of choice
  • Ink (I used Concorde Crush)
  • SNAIL or double sided tape
  • Sticky Strip
  • Paper piercer and mat pack (optional)
If you require any of the above items, please contact me to place an order BEFORE I leave on holidays. The order will be sent directly to you from SU! warehouse so you will not be waiting on my return to complete your project.

These pictures are to show you the same project using different stamp sets. You can use any images on them. A set with a range of images would work well (such as Nature's Nest or Fifth Ave Floral) as you could have a different image on each card.

April Class date

Just a quickie to let you know that the date for my April class is Saturday 9th April

I am also excited to let you know that this class will also be offered as a Class by Mail so for those that do not live near me or are unable to make the class because of the change of routine, this is perfect for you!

I will post the pictures and more details tomorrow, but for those that would like to attend the class, please let me know ASAP as I anticipate places to fill FAST.

The last hurrah

I think this might be my last hurrah for the stamp set 'Bliss'. It has been a FABULOUS Sale-a-bration set and I have used it so many times. Especially as I have now found my vintage just works so well with that theme of project.

But as March 31 is now literally just around the corner, I have to start saying my goodbyes to this set and look to what is on the horizon - by this I mean the new mini catalogue that is going live on April 1st.

This card is a nifty little one and I would love to show you how I made it. Simply book a workshop with me and I will show you and your guests how easy it is to create. The little window is just so novel and will leave your guests wondering why they don't create more cards like this.

Of course, you do not need the stamp set "Bliss' to complete it and I will use one of the new stamps sets out of the upcoming catalogue to complete the project. Due to being unavailable over the school holidays and Easter, my dates are now booking up fast as ladies are wanting to secure dates. Saturdays in particular are in short supply, so give me a call or shoot me an email to obtain a mutually agreed date.

The new mini catalogue will be delivered to all my current customers* by mid next week. If you do not receive yours, or you would like to make sure you get a FREE copy, drop me a line via email and I'll get it to you ASAP.

* current customers are those that have purchased off me in the past 12 months (ie since March 2010)

Changes are here SOON

You know how I mentioned a few months back that I have changes in the wind? Well, they are NEARLY here! OMG, I am more than a little excited. I have seen a first mockup of my new blogsite and it is coming along beautifully. When the new look is released, I will also be announcing a number of NEW things my business is offering for 2011/12.

Stay tuned....exciting stuff! And it is all designed to benefit YOU as a customer.

And for today, I have a sneak peek for you from the upcoming mini catalogue!

Ahh...this is sure to create some interest amongst the sewers and quilters amongst us! Inside the 'bag' I placed 4 fat quarters. This was a birthday present for my sister-in-law.

It's not too early to be thinking....

...of Mother's Day.

Yes, I realise that Mother's Day is not until May, and for some this seems like an eternity away. But, if you are anything like me and have your diary broken down into weeks and those weeks all seem to be filling up at a great rate of knots, then it is not too far away at all.

So, a few things you might like to think about for Mother's Day - or encourage your loved ones to buy for YOU for Mother's Day ;)
  • One of the new stamp sets out of the upcoming Autumn/Winter mini catalogue (these will be delivered in the next week or so...keep an eye out or contact me for your FREE copy)
  • A gift voucher for a monetary amount (min $25....up to whatever you'd like)
  • A gift voucher for a class
Simply contact me or get your kids/hubby to contact me via email to arrange.

If you would like the gift voucher to be posted, please put another $1 onto the amount. Stamp sets will be placed as individual orders and will attract postage which is either $5.95 or 5% whichever is the greater. Orders will be posted direct to your home unless otherwise arranged.

Here is a card that I whipped up this afternoon. I had purchased the scallop circle punch out of the mini catalogue a little while ago but had not actually used it (shock, horror...I know!) So I figured it needed a bit of an outing today. Remember, as this punch is in the mini, you won't be able to get it after 31st March, so give me a call to order your own.

The other item on this card that I was keen to show you is the patterned paper. It is one of the sheets out of the Designer Series Paper pack and is out of the Subtles Range (the colour of this one is Perfect Plum). I am LOVING this paper at the moment. For my 'True Friends' class that I ran on the weekend, I used the Certainly Celery and Wild Wasabi pages from the same pack. These are fabulous to use as a subtle mat on your cards or scrapbook pages and at less than $1 per page, they are a STEAL (see pg 127 IBC. Price per pack $37.95 for 40 sheets)

I don't know why I haven't discovered these earlier! But rest assured, I am going to buy the packs in the other colour families now!

I suggest that if you find yourself using patterned paper for accents for cards, or need a little something for your scrapbook pages, you really can't go past these for quality and price.

Materials used:
Stamps - Dreams du Jour
Ink - Concord Crush, More Mustard
Cardstock - Pear Pizzazz, So Saffron, Concord Crush
DSP - Perfect Plum DSP pack
Other - Concord Crush poly ribbon, champagne shimmer ink mixed with Isocol in a spritzer, 1 3/4 circle punch, 2 3/8 scallop circle punch

Time is running out

Just to keep this at the fore of your minds....

The Sale-a-bration catty and the Summer Mini catty will finish on March 31st. So if you would like to stock up on any items from the summer mini, or earn FREE stamps from SAB then contact me ASAP to place your order. I don't like to leave it to the last minute to place orders, just in case something out of my control happens and the order cannot be placed (such as computer servers going down or being overloaded).

Whilst all of the items in the mini catalogue are fabulous, some of the products that you might think about purchasing are:
  • itty bitty buttons - if you have bought the co-ordinating punches and stamp set, you will want to get more of these.
  • Vintage tags - again, if you have purchased the co-ordinating "Rough Type" stamp set, these little beauties are just the ticket to finish off a project.
  • Smooch Spritz - I have gone through about 4 bottles of the gold in the time we've had the mini catty! I don't seem to be able to make a card these days without giving it a bit of a squirt!
  • Textured Lattice emboss folder - this is THE BEST embossing folder I have used. It is so versatile and adds so much to a card. This featured in my class that was held yesterday.
  • Tooth Fairy a la carte stamp - ok, if you have young children like me that have yet to go through the whole teeth loosing period, this small stamp could make the whole process more believable to them. I bought one in readiness and for just $13.95, it's a steal!
  • Punches - there are 4 punches in the mini catty that you really should think about. The hearts border and corner punch are simply devine and work with each other. The large scallop circle matches the 1 3/4" circle punch in the IB&C (that was bought in to match the "Sweet Treats" products), and the set of 3 mini punches are just so cute and will work with a lot of stamp sets to add accents to.

At the end of every mini catalogue, I have someone that misses out because they either delayed purchases or they see-sawed between wanting and not sure whether to buy. If you THINK you want something, then BUY IT! After all, there is nothing in this catalogue that is hugely expensive (oh, ok...the Big Shot is expensive!), and let's face it, many of us never EVER spoil ourselves. For less than a pair of shoes, a bottle of moisturiser, a restaurant meal, or a good bottle of wine, you can purchase something that will give you hours of enjoyment and, in the case of stamps and punches, will be with you for a long time. PLUS, remember that any purchases over $100 still will earn you a FREE Sale-a-bration stamp set.

Give me a call or send me an email to place your order. Cash orders need to be with me by Monday 28th March and orders using credit cards need to be with me by Wednesday 30th in order to ensure your order goes through on time.

Tip of the Week

Ok....I realise that these are not weekly...I'm trying!

If you take any of your own products to crops, classes, retreats or workshops, make sure that you label them with your name. When there are a number of the same item lying around, sometimes it is difficult to work out what belongs to who. Use a dymo label maker or a permanent pen (silver felt pen on black items such as old punches) to label and put a small piece of ribbon through the handles of scissors

Special order

Last year for one of my Christmas classes and again in January for the birthday box class, I used test tubes as part of the resources. I used 2 different types and the ones that I liked the best were sourced from overseas. A number of ladies expressed interest in purchasing some of these the next time I placed an order. This is to let you know that I intend to place an order in the next week or so, so if you would like some test tubes or the glassine bags that I used, please let me know.

Th test tubes come in packs of 3 and are priced:
  • 4" (25ml) round with screw lid - $2/pkg
  • 6" (40ml) round with screw lid - $3/pkg (this is the ones I used)
  • 8" x 1" (140ml) square with plastic plug - $3/pkg
Postage will be on top, but at the moment, I can't tell you what this will be until I find out the total order cost. We will share the postage between us all for this order.

Just as a note, this is not a Stampin' Up! purchase. As such, this is not something that I will regularly be doing - brokering purchases from other overseas companies. However, SU! do not sell these items and seeing as I used them in a class situation, I am happy to do this.

Let me know by the end of this week if you would like to be involved in this order.

True Friend class

I know I am a bit behind in advertising this class....blame it on me getting organised for the Picture to Page event last weekend.

This class will highlight a technique that will allow you to recreate the look of pressed flowers using cardstock instead of actual flowers! You will make 3 cards with envelopes and a cute bag to store/gift them in.

Date: 19th March 2011

Time: 1pm

Location: old convent complex, 1 Fireman St, COLAC

Cost: $25 per person

RSVP is by 16th March. Bookings are essential and numbers are limited due to seating.

For those that own paper snips or fine pointed scissors, please bring these along to the class as it will speed up cutting times. Please ensure they are marked with your name so you don't mix them with others.

Picture to Page wrap up

Phew. What a big couple of days! It started on Friday night with me going to Geelong to set up my stand and finished on Sunday afternoon when I got home and unpacked. I had a great time and I want to say a big HELLO and THANKYOU to everyone that came to the show and came up and checked out my stand. I already have one comment from a show attendee in the post below (thanks Sandra!).

From my perspective, it was a successful show with numerous contacts made, 70 odd mini and SAB catalogues into the hands of potential customers and a few sales as well. I conducted a couple of demonstrations over the 2 days - introduction to vintage cards, and basic watercolouring - which never failed to draw a small gathering.

I haven't had a chance to completely unpack all of my stuff yet - general life stuff got in the way (getting kid to school and the others organised, food shopping, washing etc.... you get the drift), but I will be drawing the lucky winner of the SU! prize pack valued at >$50 TOMORROW so check back then to see if you are the winner!

For the meantime, for those that were unable to make the show, here is some pics of my display which I received numerous compliments about from visitors and other stall holders.
