Convention 2012

Just to let you all know, that I am NOT going to Convention like I planned.  Yes, it is very sad, but with Henry only just on 4 weeks old I really thought I was biting off more than I could chew.  Plus I am still suffering a bit from mastitis I got in the first few weeks.

I know that doing things with a newborn is reasonably easy because they sleep most of the time and fit into whatever you're doing, but because I had to fly to Canberra, I needed to take a hellova lot of stuff with me just for the baby.  The old adage of 'the smaller the person, the bigger the luggage requirement' is totally true!  I had to take a pram, blankets, clothes for about 10 days even though we were only going for 4, nappies, wipes, wraps etc...PLUS the stuff that I needed to take.  Then there would have been all the goodies I most likely would have purchased at Convention.....  Then I had to arrange taxis with carseats...and to do it all by myself....it was just getting a bit much.

So, I made the difficult decision last week to transfer my registration to another demonstrator and pull the pin on going.  I am very sorry not to be going - after all, I won an award, so I would have got to go up on stage! - but we do what we need to do.

Rest assured that I have many friends that are attending and I will be able to get all the information I need to keep you updated.  They will also take some pictures for me of the wonderful and creative cards and projects that will be on display, so I should be able to work those into my workshops and classes too.

Next year, I am DEFINITELY going.  I won't be pregnant or just given birth and Henry will be old enough to live off formula!!

June class announced

I am announcing my June class quite early, because I need to get RSVP's a bit ahead of normal time.  Please read on for all details.

Are you sick of being caught out and not having a card or notecard ready to attach to a present?  It happens to me all the time (yes....really!) and it drives me nuts to pull out all my stuff just to make one card.  So this class is designed to alleviate you from the stress of present giving.

3 of the 7 note cards that you will be making
Come along and make 7 small gift/notecards with matching envelopes.  These will cover a variety of occasions and whilst my samples do not have any sentiments on them, I will bring a few with me on the day so you can personalise your cards.

The bonus of this class is that not only will you come away with some cute little gift cards, but you will also receive a full packets of Brights Buttons as well.  You will be using a selection of these in the class, but what you don't use are yours to keep and use however you wish.

The concept of this class is very simple and is EASILY replicated at home using your own supplies.

  • Date: June 16th 2012
  • Time: 1pm
  • Place: old convent complex, 1 Fireman St, COLAC
  • Cost: $25 which includes a packet of buttons worth $16.95

RSVP by FRIDAY JUNE 1st at the latest to secure your spot.  As I am specially ordering supplies, in, there will be no spaces for latecomers.  In addition, a cancellation fee will be payable if you cannot attend after orders are placed.

In addition, I will be bringing baby Henry with me, so for all those that would like to see him and have a cuddle, this is your chance!!

Scrapbooking survey

I should have mentioned in my post below that if you are not signed up to receive my e-newsletters, then you won't receive a survey about my upcoming scrapbooking sessions.

If you wish to participate in the survey and help to design the sessions, please sign up to my database by filling out your email address in the sign up box (left hand side bar of this blog) and you will automatically be added.  This will ensure that you receive my month e-newsletters and any other information that I share by this means.  Alternatively, just email me and I'll manually add you.

If you have recently changed email addresses, please make sure your details are current but shooting me through an email.  I am happy to update your contact details so that you stay in the loop!

Scrapbook classes

A layout that I created to showcase some of the new 2012 Autumn Winter mini catalogue products
Since having Henry, I am reminded of why and how I became involved in this craft in the first place.  As many of you know, I am a scrapbooker at heart and I started scrapbooking just prior to the birth of my first child, Tom, back in 2005.  This was to give me a means of freezing moments in time and capturing the important milestone of my children.

Like many of you, my time is precious and I am a notoriously slow scrapbooker, so as my family expanded and my time became even more constrained, the number of scrapbook layouts I have complete have dwindled.  Each child has fewer layouts than the one preceding it.

And here's the rub; I got into scrapbooking because I wanted to capture and record events to hand down to my children, but it was because of my children that I didn't have the time to scrapbook.  A bit of a catch 22. In the end, I have found myself making more cards than anything else because they are quick and rarely require any journalling.

So what's the answer?  Well, like everything in our lives, if it is important enough to us, then we will make time for it.  And this is what I intend to do, otherwise poor Henry will have no scrapbooking album to reminisce over in years to come.

I am guessing that for some of you out there, unless you are provided with the time, means and opportunity, you will find it hard to get involved.  So I am offering scrapbooking sessions during the last half of this year.

I haven't really nutted all the details out, but I would love to get some feedback from you about what you might like to see.  I will be sending out a survey in the next few days which will focus on scrapbooking.  Please take the time to answer it as the responses will help me determine how to offer these sessions.

In the meantime, if you would like to simply contact me to discuss scrapbooking or to order any supplies, please feel free to email or phone me.

Introducing Henry.....

Many of you may have already seen this announcement if you subscribe to my newsletter, but I would like to introduce the arrival of my new baby, HENRY MICHAEL SIMPSON BILLING, born May 1st weighing 7lb 2oz at about 8.50pm.  His arrival was truly exciting as he couldn't wait to enter this world and decided to make his entrance 6 days early and in the front seat of my car out the front of the Colac Hospital!

Despite the unusual situation we found ourselves in, I was completely at ease as the midwives at Colac are truly amazing.  Over the years, we have gotten to know most of them and they are also friends.  So it was a comfort to have many of them at my side - in the rain - delivering Henry!

Needless to say, we did not get any photos of his delivery for me to scrapbook later on, but we are trying to make up for it now by taking heaps of the new little man.  At this stage, this is the only photo I have that is loaded on my laptop (yet to download camera), so I will leave you with this picture and will show you some more over the coming days and weeks.

Henry and I about 30 minutes after his arrival.
Thankyou to everyone that has already passed on their congratulations to me and my family.  We are blessed with not only having a healthy newborn to love and adore, but also to have such wonderful friends that want to share in our joy.
