Annual Stamping Christmas dinner

I have been co-ordinating an annual Christmas dinner for about 5 years now and once again, we are doing it this year.  All my customers, hostesses, workshop attendees and group members are welcome to come along.  Dinner and drinks are at your own cost - I am simply co-ordinating the event.  However....Stampin' Santa will be in attendance, so numbers are needed please!!!

This year, the dinner will be held on Wednesday November 25th at 7pm at the Union Club Hotel in Colac.  Please RSVP as soon as you can (Stamping' Santa needs to get an order in ASAP!!!) - by Monday or Tuesday would be preferable.

If you are coming, the only thing that is required of you, is to bring along a handmade Christmas card.  Don't write in it - the recipient can use it to give to someone else and share the love around.  This is the perfect opportunity to try out one of the techniques that you may have done at either a workshop, class or technique group.  Copy one of my cards if you like....I don't mind.  (Check out my Facebook page this week for a whole stack of Christmas cards that I will load up).  Or copy a card out of the catalogue.  That's what it is there for.

On Stage Local

One of the perks about being a Stamping' Up! demonstrator is that you are able to attend a variety of events; from workshops, to fundraisers, to classes, to training days.  And they are all such fun.

One of the events that I love attending are the SU! training days.  In the recent past, these have been a 3-4 day event called Convention (held once a year at a major city in Australia) and a one day event called Regionals (held once a year but in a number of cities and regional centres across Australia).  With the move to becoming a truly global company, SU! have now reconfigured the training model in a totally new way.

On the weekend I, along with 3 members of my team, attended the On Stage Local event which was held in Melbourne.  This was a one day event, but was a different format to the Regionals that we had come to know.  It was a long day, full of information and inspiration.  We got to see new products in action, listen to the short term goals of the company and receive the Occasions AND Sale-a-Bration catalogues that will both go live early next year!

One of my team members - Terri Hawke - was fortunate to attend the On Stage Live event (a 3 day event) held in Brussels, Belgium!  A very exciting time for her!!

Far and away, the best part of attending these training days, is catching up with fellow demonstrators that have becoming close and dear friends.  This is a great perk of the business!

If you think that what you do is not all that exciting, and that in 2016, you want to ENJOY what you do, instead of just turning up to work and going through the motions, the talk to me.  Compared to many home based businesses out there, this is just so easy!  You can make it fit your life.  You can run the business the way you want to.  The levels that you want to achieve are set by you - no-one else!

I am coming up 7 years in the SU! family, and with 4 kids under 10yo, if it wasn't easy, I wouldn't be doing it.  Get in touch to change your working life in 2016!!!

Christmas is definitely in the air!

I was on Facebook the other day and someone put up a post about how many days it is until Christmas.  I don't know the exact number, but I know that it is scarily close!!!  Before we know it, the festive silly season will be upon us.

This means that we need to start to get a jump on our Christmas projects NOW.

My rule of thumb, is that Christmas cards need to be in the post by 1st December.  If they are not made and in the mail then, chances are, you aren't going to do them.  As you know, I have 4 kids and with 2 of them in school, making Chrissy cards for their friends takes up an entire day.  I also have a mum who's birthday is in early December, my wedding anniversary in on 15th December, my stamping crew from around Colac has an annual dinner in early December, there are any number of Christmas parties and functions to attend......the list goes on!

So to get cards in the mail by December 1st, means that they have to be made around early to mid November depending on how many you are going to do.  In order to get your supplies, you need to be ordering in mid to late October.  From now until mid October, we only have just over 4 weeks.  Ouch!

In those 4 weeks, you will be looking around at Pinterest, Facebook, various carmakers blogsites (including mine!!!), to get inspiration on the design for YOUR projects (whether those by cards, table gifts, present gift tags, gift card holders, home furnishings and decorations.....).

As you can see, this is why I run my Christmas class in OCTOBER.  I am designing cards that you can easily replicate at home and I have used the same DSP pack to make it even easier for you!!!  Of course, I will have samples of other cards on display at the class and I will also be making up the same class cards using different stamps and DSP to show you that you can easily alter any of the designs to fit your stash.

Don't delay in booking in.  The Christmas card class is typically a bigger class, but there will still be an upper limit in how many I can cater for.  BOOK YOUR SPOT.

I will also be running a Christmas tag class using the Christmas tag kit in the Holiday catalogue.  For this class, you will be receiving the entire tag kit and will be making all the tags up on the day.  I will bring the stamp set and inks for you to complete the project.  Watch out for the RSVP date for this, as enough time needs to be allowed to order in sufficient kits.

Ronald McDonald House Charity fundraiser


I have had a couple of people inquire recently about the date for the Ronald McDonald House Charity fundraiser that we run each year.

Due to a number of high profile and worthwhile fundraisers in Colac this year, we believe that we may not be able to run another fundraiser in Colac to rival last years total.

HOWEVER......

My team and I are furiously working behind the scenes to bring you something DIFFERENT!!  I can't say just yet what this will be, but I promise that you will love it.  There will be prizes, projects and FUN.  There will also be the ability for more people to be involved.  I am already excited about it all.

You will need to stay tuned to discover what this new fundraiser will look like!

Tin of Cards class

Tin of Cards class** NEWS **

***CHANGED DATE FOR CLASS***

The Tin of Cards class that was to be run on August 8th, has now been postponed to a later date (to be determined).

The reason for the change is that this kit - along with the Cottage Greetings kit and the Watercolour Wonder kit - is so popular, that Stampin' Up! sold out in record time and have had to order more in.  In fact, the first shipment was supposed to last 8 weeks and it sold out in less than 2!!!  Wow.

So, if you missed out on RSVPing for this class, or perhaps the date didn't suit you, then here is your chance to still get in on the action!

The proposed date will be in September, most likely a Sunday.  I will let you know ASAP the confirmed day so you can pop it in your diaries.  But for the meantime, if you would like to do this class, please let me know ASAP so I can put an order in for a tin for you NOW!!!!

**UPDATE** For those of you that have registered via Facebook events, you might have got a reminder that this event is on Saturday.  IGNORE IT.  I have changed to date to Sept 1st, but this is only to keep the event 'live'.  I will post the correct date ASAP.

A little challenge

Do you find sometimes that your crafting mojo has just gone?  You would like to do some cardmaking, but it all seems too much to think about a design and colour scheme?  Well how about getting your ideas out of the SU! catalogue?

So I'll set you a bit of a challenge:

  1. Close your eyes
  2. Open up your catalogue
  3. Pop your finger on a page
  4. Recreate the card or project that your finger is on!

I did this today and I recreated the card on pg 109.

Now I actually have all the items to reproduce the card exactly, but I thought I would do it with the idea in mind that I might not own everything.  Just to show you that you can easily recreate a card even if you don't own all - or any - of the items.

For the tag, I cut a peice of watercolour paper 2 inches wide and 4 inches long.  I punched the top of it using one of the tag topper punches.  Then I wet the entire tag thoroughly and using my aquapainter brush, I picked up some of the Watermelon Wonder ink and brushed it on the bottom left side of the tag working upwards and on an angle.  I then dried the tag using my heat gun (you could just as easily wait for it to dry naturally, but I am too impatient!).  I then wet the top right of the tag and this time, I used So Saffron in the same way as the Watermelon ink.  Again I dried to tag with my heat gun.

I stamped in Soft Suede, the honeycomb image from the Butterfly Basics stamp set (p124) a few times after stamping off first to give some depth to the background.  Then I gave the whole tag a good going over with my embossing buddy.  I did this because the tag was still slightly dampish and I didn't want the gold embossing powder to stick to places I didn't want.

Inking up the verse from the Butterfly Basics set in Versamark, I then sprinkled and heat set in gold embossing powder.  All I did to finish off the tag, was add a stamped small butterfly in So Saffron (and punched out) and the larger butterfly in Watermelon Wonder (cut out using Butterfly thinlits), some of the stitched stain ribbon and linen thread.

The background is embossed using the Arrows embossing folder, which is the same as the card in the catalogue.

Rarely I make a card EXACTLY the same as the one I am copying in the catalogue.  This is really not for any other reason than I tend to want to change the colour or the sentiment to suit the reason for making the card in the first place.  And you should do the same.

So take a fresh look at the catalogue (and past catalogues too!) and get your cardmaking mojo going!!

Tin of Cards class

**REMINDER**

I will be running a Tin of Cards class on August 8th.  Registrations is STRICTLY by July 24th in order to have enough supplies for everyone.  Cost is $55 per person and you will make 16 cards and also get the cool tin to store your cards in.

Get your punches out!

Following on from yesterday's fantastic class, where we used some of our punches in different ways, I thought that I might run a small competition!

Your task, is to upload a picture of a card where you have used TWO punches.  I have made a card as an example that uses the triple banner punch ($38 p165) and the 2 1/2" circle punch ($31 p165).

I also used the new Awesomely Artistic stamp set (clear $35; wood $49 p125), the English Garden DSP ($19.25 p142), one of the new metal rimmed pearls ($8.75 p161), linen thread and a paper doily to finish up the card.

Upload your creation by next Sunday (26th July) to be in the running for a prize!!!

July class - Using Punches

Ok, most of you have purchased punches and have most likely used them for the purpose that they were designed for.  Punching a shape.  Some punches - a number that Stampin' Up! have recently released - are matched to stamp sets.  These are great because they make fast work of your cardmkaing or crafting needs.  Others are stock standard shapes (eg circle, heart, square etc) that are used as a matting piece.

But punches can be used for a little more than the obvious.

Join me on Saturday to learn a few more ways that you can use your punches and get more value out of them.  You will be making 3 projects as well as seeing a number of ways that you can use other punches.

Cancellation notice


You know how it is.....life gets in the way and the best laid plans flutter right out the window.  Well, this has happened to me.  As much as I absolutely HATE to do it, I am forced to cancel the class that I was proposing to hold on Saturday (27th June).

Unfortunately, one of my children has been suffering quite severely with asthma and I have spent the better part of 24 hours in either hospital, doctors rooms or nursing him at home.  Scary stuff for a 3 year old.  The sleepless nights have taken my toll and I don't feel I am able to give you 100% of me.

So instead of giving you just a half hearted attempt, I am going to cancel, spend the time regrouping, and come back with a great class in July!!!

I sincerely apologise to anyone that I have inconvenienced by taking this action.  Please trust me when I say that rarely cancel classes and I really detest doing it.  But I also hope that you will completely understand.

Cards for non cardmakers

I get it.  I really do.

I have a multitude of friends that tell me how much they like my cards, but they "couldn't possibly make them" themselves.  Or - a popular one is - that "they don't have the time" to get into it making cards.  Sometimes friends tell me that "it is too expensive" to start another hobby.

So what if I told you I could fix EVERY SINGLE ONE of the above concerns?  What if I told you, I could not only save you time, help you produce beautiful handmade cards, but I could also SAVE YOU MONEY?  Would you be interested then?

Stampin' Up! have released their 2015-16 catalogue and it is simply bursting with ideas, kits and products for not only the dedicated cardmakers and scrapbookers amongst us, but for the person that just wants to knock out a few handmade cards a year, or who needs to grab some beautiful co-ordinating supplies for party invitations and favour bags.

One of the items that will appeal to non cardmakers is the "Tin of Cards" kit which features on page 152 of the catalogue.

All for just $47 (plus p/h).  This is where I can save you money.

How much do you spend on cards at the newsagent?  $4.95? $6.50?  More?  I took a walk through a newsagent the other day and the AVERAGE price for a decent card was $5.95.
$5.95!  ON. AVERAGE.
The above kit initially sounds pricey.  $47 for handmade cards.  But let's break this down.
$47 for 16 cards works out to be $2.94 per card.  But the price also includes the storage tin (which is pretty special in real life!) and the dividers that you can use to separate different themed cards.  So lets say that the tin and dividers cost $7.  That means that it is now $40 for 16 cards which makes them $2.50 per card.

C'mon, that is PRETTY GOOD VALUE.  

You will get a beautiful handmade card for around the same price as those tatty generic low quality ones that you can get in the $2 shops.  But with the SU! kit ones, you can tell everyone proudly that "Why yes, I DID make that myself.  No trouble.  Easy as pie.  Beautiful isn't it?"

Ok, so what about the time aspect.  Well, I received this kit the other day and I quickly made up 1 of each of the 4 different designs for my catalogue launch yesterday.  And you know how long it took me?  About 20 minutes.  If that.  You could EASILY finish all 16 cards in a couple of hours and still have time for a cuppa and a chat (see below about a class on this).

And finally, what about skill level?  Ok, you may not be gifted with the skill of art.  You might not know our Mint Macaron from our Daffodil Delight.  But I can PROMISE YOU, you will not fail at making these cards up and have them professional looking.  The kit comes with everything you need, the colours are all co-ordinated and the hard thinking is taken out of the equation.

So what is stopping you?

The Tin of Cards kit co-ordinates with the Tin of Cards stamp set.  I will be running a class where I will supply the matching stamp set for you to use in constructing your cards.  I will also provide everything else you require to complete the cards (ink, adhesive etc).  All you will need to do is turn up.

The Tin of Cards class will be held on Saturday 8th August from 1pm - 3pm.  The location will held in Colac, and will be confirmed ASAP.  Cost of this class is $55 and includes everything you need including the kit, the use of my stamps and equipment, room hire and refreshments.

Post launch wrap-up

Wow!  What a day.  Yesterday was pretty brilliant (if I do say so myself!) for my launch of the 2015 Stampin' Up! catalogue.  Over two sessions, 15 ladies attended and got to see first hand some of the new products, colours and tools available in the catalogue.  I am pretty sure that everyone left with a head full of great ideas and a wish list as long as their arm!  Thankyou to everyone that came out and supported me.

NEW CLUBS:
There are THREE new clubs starting.
New Hostess Club round commencing August 2015.  This club requires 6 members and I have a couple of spare places.  For more information on how clubs run, please visit this LINK and read all about it.
New Techniques Group commencing ASAP.  I will actually be offering 2 different group formations for my next Tech Groups.

  • For local ladies, I will be running a group in COLAC on a day/night that is suitable to the majority of members.  Read about how tech groups work by clicking on this LINK.
  • I will also be offering a condensed version for ladies that do not live near me, but are able to travel occasionally.  This group will run 3 times a year and will cover up to 5 techniques in a session.  The time per session for this will be an extended one to allow for us to complete the required techniques. Price for this will be announced soon.
New Marker Club commencing ASAP.  This club has been designed to allow customers to purchase the ENTIRE set of SU! markers and receive the storage case.  There are TWO options; one that provides members with the full set of SU! markers in the 4 colour families, the second option allows the purchase of (2015-17) In-Colour Markers as well.  Read more about this club by visiting this LINK.

Unfortunately, there were two errors on the class list distributed at yesterday's launch.  The class for June (next week) is on Saturday the 27th NOT 28th as printed.

Catalogue Launch on SATURDAY 20th June

COME ALONG....DON'T MISS OUT ON THE FUN!

You may have already seen (via Facebook or other emails) that I am holding a launch of the new Stampin' Up! Catalogue.  This event is being held next Saturday (20th June).  There are two time slots to accommodate you: one at 10.30am – 12pm or 1 – 2.30pm.


Those that have attended in previous years have always had a great time, and the short time frame means that you are not tied up for the entire day.  I know that we are all busy…..I get that.  But we also need to occasionally take some time out for just us as well.  Treat yourself to an hour and a half of just browsing and playing with some papercrafting products.  Let me state right now….THERE IS NO COMPULSION TO BUY ANYTHING.  This is not a workshop, or a sales event.  It is merely a show and tell (and a bit of a play!)

The morning session is already pretty full, so I would direct you to the afternoon slot, however if you can only make the morning, I can fit you in.

The catalogue launch gives you the opportunity to see some of the new products that are in the catalogue, see the new In-Colours and DSP in real life, and have a play with some of the new items!  Each person that attends will also receive a gift bag containing numerous little goodies, including a discount card, samples, a free catalogue (unless already received one) and more!  There will be door prizes, refreshments and a Make n Take to do on the day.  I will also have a list of upcoming events available, and I will also have a list of clubs that are getting ready to start that you may join.

For those that know a bit about Stampin' Up!, or have been customers a while back, please note that SU has altered its product offering substantially over the past few years.  The colours, images and patterns are all very much on trend, there are more kits  on offer this time round, and the number of product bundles has increased as well (where you can save 15%!!!).  You should not limit yourself to thinking that SU is only about making cards.  The potential use of our products is only limited by your imagination.  I have used our stamps, accessories, tools and equipment for invitations, party favours, decorations, scrapbooking, notices, flyers, home d├ęcor….all in addition to making cards.  If you are not a card maker, it doesn't matter.  I invite you to see all the possible uses.

For those that are part of one of my groups (stamp club or technique groups), the cost is $0.  That's right….that's one of the benefits of being in my clubs.  For all others, the cost is $10 payable at the door.  However, if you bring a friends with you, I will reduce the fee to $5 for you!

LAST DAYS!!!!

Just to draw your attention to the fact that the current Annual Catalogue runs out on TUESDAY JUNE 2nd, not June 30th as advertised on the catalogue cover.

This change was made after publication of the catalogue and it is to align ALL markets of SU! across the globe.  We are finally going to be a truly global company with all releases occurring on the same day!  So we get the new products and offers at the SAME TIME as the US and Canadian markets, which will be of good new to a number of you.

Also, TOMORROW (May 31st) is the LAST DAY you can purchase and download any MDS (My Digital Studio) products from SU!  

SU! have decided to remove this product offering (insert sad face).  It is a wise and just business decision, but I know that I will mourn it's demise.  However, you can continue to use MDS and any of the download you have purchased.....you just will not be able to buy any more.

So head on over to my online store and check out any last minute MDS purchases you would like (I did this on Thursday night!).  MAKE SURE YOU DOWNLOAD the products after you have purchased them.  In addition to not being able to buy any more downloads after May 31st, you will also not be able to download any purchases that you have not already done to your computer.

BACK UP the MDS files on an external drive so that if your computer crashes, you don't loose everything!!!!

Stampin' Up! Convention

Hello everyone.  Just a note to let you know that I will be attending the annual Stampin' Up! convention again this year.  I will be headed up to the Gold Coast (!) tomorrow lunchtime and will be there until Sunday afternoon.  However, don't fret and hold back any orders while I am away.

Sold out items

As I mentioned in my previous post, items on the retirement list will sell out quickly.  These items are now unavailable:

The retired list is now live and there are plenty of huge savings to be had!  But don't delay, because items on this list sell out VERY QUICKLY.  You are best advised to shop via my online store in order to have the best chance at securing your desired products.  Simply clikc on the SHOP button (left hand side menu) and go to my online shop via that way.  Simply click on the retired products picture when you get there!

So, with the retired list out, it must mean that the current catalogue is not long away!  Yes, that is correct.  All my current group members (stamp club and technique groups) will be automatically receiving the new catalogue free of charge.  If you are not a club member and would like to secure your own copy before it goes live on June 2nd, then simply click on the PayPal button and you will receive your catalogue before the end of May.  Cost of annual catalogues is $7.95 which includes postage!

I will also pop in her on a daily basis and keep you updated as to items that are sold out.  Note that items that sell out on this list, will not be placed on backorders.

Products discontinuing

In recent weeks, demonstrators have been given the news about two main products that will be discontinued.  As I have customers and friends that are using either or both of these products, I need to pass on the information.

BLENDABILITIES
Effective immediately, Blendabilities will no longer be available for purchase.  The reason for this, is that a major fault was picked up during the manufacturing phase resulting in a very high percentage of this product being rejected.  The process of welding the top of the pen onto the barrel was casing microscopic holes in the pen casing, which in turn was causing evaporation and hence, dry pens.  The return rate from customers was also high.  Based on these failure rates and the potentially long back order timeframes to supply new pens, SU! have taken the sad but neccessary step of removing this product line from our catalogues.

For any customers that currently have these pens on backorder or had selected them as a SAB freebie (prior to the announcement), you will be contacted to offer a replacement product.

From a personal note, I am very sad and disappointed to see the blendabilities go, but there is no good reason to keep a faulty product on the market.  There is no word on how, when or even if they will be replaced, but in the meantime, there are plenty of other colouring options available to us.  I am happy to run a colouring methods workshop if you would like more ideas on how to use the markers and inks.

MY DIGITAL STUDIO (MDS)
Ok this is a big one and is a little out of the blue.  Effective MAY 31st, MDS will no longer be available for download.  In addition, no support (other than through informal avenues such as Facebook) will be offered to customers or demonstrators.  Of course, anything that you have purchased prior to this date, including the program itself, will still work and be available to you. It's just that you won't be able to buy any new things.

I will be doing another post relating specifically to using MDS AFTER May 31st and talk about how it is still a program that you can use for personal benefit.  So there is no need to toss the baby out with the bathwater.

What you need to know - and do - right now is to make sure that you backup your MDS purchases on an external source (ie, not your computer).  This will include the MDS program itself and any digital programs that you purchased.

I will be back with any more information as it comes to hand.

Joining SU + Sale-a-Bration = FREEBIE

Q. What am I expected to do as a demonstrator?
A. The main thing is that you need to meet your quarterly minimums.  How you do this is entirely up to you.  You can earn these by selling product at in home workshops, run an online business, hold classes (which the product you use will be purchased from SU), run stamp clubs etc.....it is up to you.

Q. What if I don't achieve the minimums?
A. In the first case, you will go into what is known as "pending" status.  This simply means that you have an amount that you are outstanding by on the previous quarter dales.  If you wish to continue to be a demonstrator, you just need to make up this difference and then continue as normal.  If you don't wish to continue to be a demonstrator, you simply don't place any more orders.  you will then move into a "dropped" status which simply means you are no longer a demo.

Q. If I 'drop', what are the implications?
A. Nothing.  As you have already paid for all your supplies, there is no repercussions if you want to cease being a demo.  No questions asked, and no guilt about leaving.

Q. What are some of the benefits of being a demonstrator?
A.  Ahhh, this is the good stuff!  Being a demonstrator automatically entitles you to a 20% discount on all your purchases for the time you are a current demo.  You will also earn a minimum of 20% income on all commissionable sales.  These two aspects are the main drives behind a lot of demos joining SU!  However, there are also other benefits:

  • sneak peeks and the ability to pre-purchase upcoming products
  • see the products BEFORE the public does
  • attend training sessions
  • be part of a wider team - my team is spread out in Victoria, SA and even Saudi Arabia!!  But the wider team we belong to is the Elite Stampers which are 800+ members strong throughout Australia. 
  • ability to earn free products via various promotions throughout the year
  • ability to earn monetary bonus based on performance
  • ability to earn a free all expenses trip courtesy of SU!

Featured item: Butterfly Basics

Hi all.  This year, I have decided that I am going to feature various items out of our wonderful catalogues.  It is easy to miss products in the catalogue unless your attention is specifically drawn to them.  This happens to me too, and often I find myself asking another demo what a particular beautiful item on their card is, only to find out is is something I have breezed over in the catty, or in fact, never even seen!

So, seeing as it happens to me, I assume it happens to you too.
